Working and Loving it

WHEW!!!  It is HARD work posting upcoming events on all those wonderful social media sites they have for us to use!  Makes me appreciate when my mom used to manage the band and do all the work… UGH!

HOWEVER…  I AM VERY GRATEFUL to be a working musician with many opportunities thrown at me — and I know I can speak for all the talented artists I work with.  There are sharks out there people!!!  PLAYING music and BOOKING music are 2 totally different things.  Artists shouldn’t really be pimping themselves out, you know?? Kinda lame if you ask me… With Simple Souls, we tag team it:  Zaysha does the booking details (for the private gigs and venues) and I’m the main one that does the administrative side of things.

If you did already know, I manage YOZA as well.  She’s an INSANELY talented girl that has SUPERSTAR written all over her!  NO… you won’t find it on her tattooed body anywhere, it’s a figure of speak!  I refuse to be responsible for Yoza getting stares as she walks by people on a crowded street… wait.  If that many people visited this site and read this blog, I take that back!  I’ll take responsibility!  ;)

The goal is to move forward and upward… there’s a lot more songwriting to be done and opportunities for us to take.  I know it’s supposed to happen!  In the meantime, we’ll be rehearsing at our gigs… stop by and say hello sometime!!!

ROCK ON!

Freedom Fest 2010

Freedom for all

FREEDOM FEST / GiRL FeST and the Pacific Alliance to Stop Slavery (PASS) have been working hard this past legislative session to get SB2045–a bill that enacts serious legal penalties for sexual human trafficking–signed into law. GiRL FeST and PASS are the only local organizations that provide services and legal advocacy to victims of sex trafficking, and they are hoping that Hawaii state law will soon be on their side as well. As of now, Hawaii is one of six states without a law against human trafficking. (Note that by the time the paper hits the streets, the deadline for Lingle to sign or veto SB2045 will have passed.)

This weekend, the two groups are hosting Freedom Fest at Fresh Cafe, a benefit concert to celebrate their accomplishments and raise awareness for their cause. The party starts with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by performances and the concert, which starts at 9pm. Entertainment includes performers from Youth Speaks Hawaii, the African drum and dance collective Badenyaa and Sewa Fire, Simple Souls, Kelly Heath and Carly Smith of the Girlas, and Yoza, Lei Melket and Black Square.

FRESH CAFE, 831 QUEEN ST., SAT 7/10, 7PM-2AM, $7-$20 SLIDING SCALE, 18+, [GIRLFESTHAWAII.ORG], [TRAFFICKJAMMING.ORG], 599-3931

REFRESHED

HEY PEEPS!!!

Well, as much as I’d LIKE to say our site is really to roll… I can’t.  Truth is… I accidentally erased the one I had up originally because I TRIED to input a web calendar that ended up replacing our site… what a BOZO!

Anyway, I fixed it… and we have a functional site… Our gigs should be up by tonight for December….

Of course, you can go to myspace.  I’m trying to get our iLike gig calendar to link to our myspace page, but it didn’t work yet… I really need to take up some web classes…. lol.

I’m pretty much the nerd of the group, so most.. if not ALL,  of our news, gigs and updates will be done by YOURS TRULY… good practice for me!  I’ll try my best to update regularly… video posts will be placed on here. I’m on twitter on the regular, so although Zaysha is on twitter, y’all can follow me if you wanna know the scoops (sorry Zaysha)…  lol.

2010 is creeping around the corner and we have so much to do… time is really starting to speed past us… INSANE.  The video I posted above is an fairly older live recording of Lenny Kravitz’s “I Belong To You,”  Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady,”  and Chrisette Michele’s “Let’s Rock.”  I got a bunch of random recordings, but I haven’t had a chance to sift through them… I will be shortly posting video’s from my trips to japan with Pali that I did this year and whatever random vids I find…

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and please visit often!
